Almost three million lei for disadvantaged communities in Bacău County from EEA Grants

The "Equity for health, equity for a better life!" project has made a significant contribution to ensuring real and sustainable inclusion. The Bacău branch of the National Red Cross Society, together with the Municipality of Blăgești, the Municipality of Comănești and the European Roma Association for Progress and Intercultural Promotion, in collaboration with the County Council and the Prefect`s Institution of Bacău County, have laid the foundations for this collective effort, which aimed to reduce poverty and include Roma people in the community.
“Working together for a green, competitive, and inclusive Europe!”

The message of the slogan has been successfully put into practice by a wonderful team from the Bacău Red Cross!
The Roma communities in the villages of Buda – Șipote hamlet and Poiana Negustorului (Blăgești commune) and in the Șupan neighborhood (Comănești town) face the following reality: low education levels and lack of health information, low participation in education among Roma children, poor health conditions affected by lack of access to hygiene and appropriate health prevention services, and the presence of discrimination in the patient-healthcare professional relationship and other aspects of social life.

With a grant of €500,197 - EEA Grants, they have managed to:
- provide health education training for 540 Roma adults and 865 students (of which 440 are Roma) in schools in the targeted communities,
- conduct medical consultations at home for 250 elderly and chronically ill people,
- offer free dental consultations for 90 children,
- train 40 young Roma as volunteers of the Bacău Red Cross; conduct workshops and demonstrations of basic first aid,
-  organize non-formal educational and cultural-artistic activities to promote Roma customs and traditions.
