We Love Nature, We Support the Environment!
With the help of EEA Grants, a team from the Research and Development Institute for Game Management and Mountain Resources in Miercurea-Ciuc, together with their Norwegian partner from NIBIO (Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research), have ecologically restored several peat bogs and wetlands in the central part of the country.
The 13 peat bogs in the central region have been restored through specific works aimed at re-establishing the hydrological and hydrogeological levels of the peatlands, thus ensuring the continued development of the peat layers.
These peat bogs are ecosystems capable of sequestering large amounts of carbon dioxide and play a role in regulating the water cycle in nature. Peat colonies create a microclimate with relict species from the last glacial period, holding significant natural value for us and future generations.
You can observe the carnivorous plant Round-leaved Sundew (Drosera rotundifolia), other plants like Bogbean, evergreen cranberries, pine saplings, and blueberries if you visit the three rehabilitated thematic trails: in Estelnic commune at Kovacs` Dam peat bog, in Mereni commune at Sandy Mound peat bog, and in Tușnad commune at Nadaș Marsh peat bog, or on the newly constructed thematic trail in Sâncrăieni commune at Luci Peat Bog.
